#KibouStyles: From Desk to Diapers to Date Night with Leya Kaufman

Stylist mama fanny pack with son

Leya Kaufman

We're all about looking at other working moms to glean style inspo--bonus points for comfortable and well-accessorized. And Leya Kaufman checks both of these boxes for us! Always in awe of her seemingly effortless style, we caught up with  @leyakaufmom to learn more about where her style inspiration comes from and picked her brain for tips and recs for the rest of us.

Tell us about yourself! Where are you from, what do you do?

I’m a New York based full-time working mom of two boys (3-years & 10-months). As the Head of Brand & Publisher for Coveteur, I oversee brand partnerships, marketing, and client services for some of the most incredible brands in the world. It’s a bit hectic at times but honestly…it’s a dream job!

You’ve been working in the fashion industry for over 10 years now. How did you get your start?

I landed a PR internship at Giorgio Armani the year before college graduation that changed the trajectory of my career. While I didn’t end up working in PR, that one role built the foundation for the relationships that I’m forever grateful for. They all led me to where I am today.

What do you enjoy most about your job as Head of Brand - Publisher & SVP of Sales at @coveteur?

At Coveteur, we’re ideating and creating opportunities for our advertisers & brand partners every single day. The endless creativity and continued excitement carries into every internal meeting or client call. There are always new chances to innovate. No two days are the same and I thrive on the fast pace that we’re accustomed to in sales.

Where does your love of fashion come from?

My mom! As soon as I was old enough to start “shopping” in my mom’s closet, I knew I was in love with fashion. The concept of power-dressing was also part of my upbringing. I will never forget the first time I realized how synonymous fashion can be with confidence. My mom will always rock a pantsuit better than anyone I’ve ever met.

How would you describe your personal style?

Classic with an edge–and all about power-dressing. I always want to look like I could walk into an executive board meeting but stand out (vs. blend in in) with an overabundance of accessories at all times.

What tips do you have for new moms who are looking to revamp their post-baby wardrobe?

Allow your style to evolve as a mom! Now that I’m busy, my favorite pieces in my wardrobe are those that wash easily, pair effortlessly, and allow me to constantly multi-task for the entire family. A few must-haves: Button-down shirts, flowy denim, sustainable leggings, sneakers, and a Kibou (or two!)

What closet staples are must-haves to transition from mom-boss to off duty to date night?
(1) Versatile staples like LBDs are a must-have for date nights, but I love that I can throw a sweater on top of one to put Theo down for naptime…or pair an oversized blazer on top of one for a meeting too.

My favorite LBDs of the moment:
Veronica Beard -Coleman dress
All Saints-Frankie dress

(2) Layered initial necklaces are a great way to celebrate being a mom. They also look just as amazing on a zoom meeting as they do with a low cut dress after hours.

A few I love:
Mila Gems -Mini Paperclip necklace
Caye Joaillier -JouJou A-Z necklace (CAYExLEYA for 10% off)
CatBird -Tiniest Alphabet necklace

Tell us what you’re wearing in all of your looks!

As a mom on the go with my Kibou, I’m in sustainable leggings, a classic t-shirt, and any sort of outerwear that can pass for “athleisure”:  Line & Dot Saylor puffer jacket, Pact leggings & Pact long-sleeve tee

To WFH in the winter, I’m usually in a blazer or a matching rib-knit set like this one I styled with my Kibou:  Splendid Rumi rib skirt & Rumi rib sweater

For date night, I’m in a vintage Emporio Armani LBD this week but any of my favorite LBDs would channel the same vibe.

Finally, what’s currently in your Kibou?

Right now my Kibou is filled with my day-to-day essentials:
